Every Broken Rod has a Story

A campaign to announce a brand new repair department at Sage Fly Fishing.

Sage got themselves into a bit of quandary: during covid their repair department was inundated with rods that needed repair, I heard a number that they had 30k rods backed up at one point. With factory shutdowns and rods piling up, suffice to say, Sage’s customers were getting anxious to get back on the water. To solve this, Sage retooled their entire repair department from the ground up - putting in a ton of hard work on processes, automation and just using good ol’ American elbow grease to get things to a place where they’re turning around broken rods within 2 weeks. Excellent work by all! We are honored to be a part of their announcement of a completely re-designed, efficient and badass repair department. We also had a lot of fun breaking these rods.

From Sage:

Every broken rod has a story. A fly rod is more than just a tool to catch fish; it's a storehouse of memories, a tangible link to the places, people, and meaningful experiences that matter most.

Anyone logging sufficient hours in the wild will eventually face the gut-wrenching, nearly inevitable experience of breaking a rod. It might happen mid-cast, mid-fight, or more likely, far from the water, under the weight of a tailgate, in the jaws of a curious dog, beneath a spinning ceiling fan, or thanks to the reckless enthusiasm of a well-meaning "friend."

We understand the bond between angler and rod. That's why every Sage rod is not only crafted by hand on Bainbridge Island, WA, but also repaired by those same hands. The artisans who built your rod from scratch are the ones who breathe life back into it. We believe that a fly rod isn't disposable — it's a trusted partner worthy of restoration.
