Anna Ortega has driven, walked and crawled through a huge chunk of Wyoming to do two things: study the longest mule deer migration and chase trout. The mule deer are her “job” but as you’ll see it doesn’t always feel like work when you’re passionate and surrounded by our fishy friends. Day-in and day-out, most of us punch into our daily grind and navigate the workweek with an eye on the weekend. Daydreaming of wide-open landscapes and rising trout, we zone out in-between emails, while on the phone, or during Zoom meetings. Anna Ortega’s office is a little different than most of ours. Actually, Anna’s office is probably what we’re all daydreaming about, but her daily grind is a little different than the typical day job as well. As a researcher for the University of Wyoming, Anna studies the largest mule deer migration in North America and on any given day, her office could be almost anywhere in Wyoming from the Red Desert to the high alpine. But just like the rest of us, Anna has to deal with scat from time to time.
